Trash and Recycling
                                                                                                          Bulk Item Pickup

Dare County recently changed its bulk item pickup to once a year, and it is typically scheduled for mid-April, just after the community yard sale.  The dates for both will be emailed to owners in advance. Please be sure to place your bulk items on the curb in front of your home the night before to ensure you will not be missed. This includes large items such as furniture, mattresses and appliances. Please be reminded that if you miss this bulk item pickup, you will have to wait a year until the next one. You may NOT put any bulk items in the trash area.

                                                                                                        Yard Debris and Chipping Area

The yard debris drop off at the postal/dumpster lot is intended for small tree limbs only.  It is a convenient service that we want to provide to the membership, but we are under no obligation to do so. If unauthorized dumping continues, we will be forced to close down this area or increase the member dues to cover the additional costs.  As this area is for resident use only, please instruct any contractor doing work at your home that they may not leave any landscaping or construction debris there.

Despite numerous posted signs and e-mails to the membership, residents and their contractors continue to dump leaves, grass clippings, tree stumps, lumber, even pier pilings, in this area. We have no way to remove this material other than to hire a contractor with a front-end loader, trucks and trailers, to haul the debris away.  Thank you, in advance, for following the rules!

                       What NOT to do...

Dumpster Rules

Please use our dumpsters for household trash only, and do not allow contractors to dump any materials in the association's bins. Large items, such as furniture, mattresses, appliances, and such may not be put in the dumpsters or left sitting in the dumpster area.  Owners may have these items picked up at the annual "large item pickup" in April, or haul them away themselves at other times of the year.  The Bob Perry Road Recycling Center will no longer accept non-recyclable large items, demolition and/or construction debris from anyone other than residents of the Town of Kitty Hawk, so these items must be taken to the Dare County Landfill in East Lake.

Recycling

The association has discontinued the recycling program as it was found that the recycling vendor did not have easily available markets to sell the recyclables, and many items were instead being disposed of as trash.  All dumpsters at the mailbox area are now for trash.
